2. Hold the smudge cup securely using metal tongs.

3. Using a candle flame, carefully light the outer top edge of the charcoal cup. Do not attempt to light the resin-filled centre or the bottom, as these areas are not designed for ignition.

4. Allow the charcoal edge to catch and begin smouldering before carefully placing the cup inside the burner on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

5. Keep the burner lid off while lighting and ensure sufficient airflow for the charcoal to smoulder.

6. Allow the smoke to rise naturally while focusing on your intentions and expressing gratitude.

Pro Tips for Lighting Your Smudge Cups

• Use a candle: A steady candle flame makes it easier to ignite the charcoal edge.

• Light the outer edge, not the centre: The charcoal cup must ignite first. Trying to light the resin inside or the bottom will not work as intended.

• Allow adequate airflow: Charcoal requires oxygen to ignite and continue smouldering.

• Keep the burner lid off during ignition: Restricted airflow can prevent the charcoal from catching properly.

• Use metal tongs: Never hold a lit or hot smudge cup with your bare hands.
