What Is A Tumble Crystal?
Tumbled stones are small, rounded, and brightly polished rocks, crystals, and minerals. ... It tumbles the rocks until their edges and surfaces become smooth, shiny, and polished. Tumbled stones are also sometimes called tumbled gemstones, polished stones, polished rocks, baroque gems, and many other names.
They are quite popular in jewelry and crafts, and as collectibles and souvenirs.
Because of their colorful, pretty appearance and interesting shapes, they have inspired a lot of people to know more about gemstones, crystals, rocks, and minerals.
If you’ve just started to learn more about crystals then polished and crystal tumbles are a great and affordable way for beginners to ease into their collection.
Can tumbled stones be used for healing?
Tumbled stones provide healing in all areas of your life, and notably in your mind. These stones are even popular among spiritual healers, mindfulness practitioners, and meditation practitioners because of their healing properties when it comes to mental well-being.
How are tumbled stones and crystals made?
In making tumbled stones, colorful rocks and minerals that have a hardness rating between 5 and 8 are selected. They are quite durable and can be given a good polish.
The materials are then placed within a rock tumbler. The most common type of rock tumbler is rotary that rotates a barrel with the rocks together with abrasive grit for several days or weeks.
As the rocks tumble inside the barrel, grains of abrasive grit get caught between the rocks and scrape off the sharp edges and points. Over time this process will smooth out the surfaces of the crystals.
This modifies the rock’s shapes and gives them a more rounded shape. Small silicon carbide granules are used to smooth out the surfaces for polishing.
The final step is to polish. A rock polish is used to create a bright and polished surface on the rocks. This is what allows the crystal to shine and reflect light. This whole tumbling process usually takes a few weeks to finish.
